IN TRIBUTE TO
MARSHALL FIELD &
COMPANY
CHICAGO’S FIRST
MAJOR GAY-FRIENDLY EMPLOYER
Decades ago, Marshall Field and Company was one of the first
and only major workplaces in our great City of Chicago
for that matter, in the United Statesthat hired, retained
and promoted openly gay employees.
This diversity contributed significantly to Marshall Field’s
status as both a beloved, local emporium with something for all,
as well as a culturally rich, international institution
that dramatically elevated Chicago’s global status and influence.
With immense gratitude for and in homage to Marshall Field’s
GLBTQ history and former employees, we continue to ask
Chicago to rally and implore Macy’s to restore Marshall Field’s
to State Street in style, service and name for the 21st Century.
